VTDA December/January News

AS you will have read with your Licence renewal there is a new Insurance provider for this season with regards Personal Accident Insurance. Public Liability Insurance has not changed. Recent events have highlighted once again the need for all participants to have Ambulance cover and Private Health Insurance. Those that do believe they have Ambulance cover as part of their Private Health Insurance should clarify exactly what this entails. By not having both of these will significantly erode the $10,000 maximum allowance of medical expenses covered under the policy.

In conjunction with Harness Racing Australia and JLT the Insurance broker there will be some seminars available at various locations to explain the Insurance cover in place for Trainers & Drivers.

Consultation Meeting

A Harness Racing Victoria Consultation meeting was held the latter part of November with the Association. Some of the issues discussed were as follows:

Tabcorp Park Friday Nights

The Association asked HRV to provide statistics on the operation of the 12 race program set up for Friday nights. Although we are in the early stages of the new setup figures indicate that the Turnover generated on this meeting is significantly above those gained last season from two separate meetings. There has also been a reduction in the costs associated in running two meetings versus one.

Use of Tabcorp Park Track for training

HRV advised that in the New Year they expect that the track will be available for training at least one morning a week. We are working with HRV to have the track open at least twice a week and the timing of when the track will be available.

Programming of the Friday night meeting

The Association has asked HRV to look at the programming structure for the 12 race Friday night meetings, one by increasing metropolitan fronts where possible and two by utilising the well known horses who are often balloted out of the M0, M1 and TM0 class races and don’t have the significant racing opportunities as do the maiden and lower class horses. We suggested that where possible a country front race could be added to the program made up of these balloted horses.

Stakemoney Distribution

The Association raised the issue of looking after the majority of the horse population that finish down the track and do their bit to maintain fields and generate the very important TAB turnover which funds our industry. The Association believes a redistribution of the Stakemoney percentages in a race will assist those running from sixth to last in some small way to cover the expense for owners in racing a horse and maintain those owners in our industry as many are not reinvesting in horses. Discussion took place on our proposal and if not by Stakemoney distribution how can were assist those owners with the costs of racing a horse.

Licence Fees

HRV have committed to working with the Association to commence looking at the cost of Licences for the 2013/14 season and how this cost will be recovered.

Christmas/New Year

PRESIDENT Lance Justice and the executive committee would like to wish all industry participants a safe and prosperous Christmas/New Year period along with many winners in 2013. As we all will be on the road over this busy period, be safe.
