VTDA Latest News

Over the last twelve months the Association has:
  • Lobbied and seen a reduction in the level of some of the fines given out by stewards.
  • Conducted regional meeting to gain views from industry participants on various issues.
  • Was pro-active in regard OH & S requirements placed on Licence holders and assisted those Licence holders without Internet access to keep them in the industry.
  • Continued to monitor and work on fine-tuning starting procedures and other racing issues.
  • Donated over a dozen trophies in the form of presentation rugs to clubs, both TAB and non-TAB.
  • Introduced bonus races for paid up financial members.
  • On Redwood Day had the first of a number of member days, which included light refreshments and lucky draws for over $1,000 worth of prizes from sponsors.
  • Improved horse facilities at Moonee Valley.

The three most important achievements have resulted in benefits for all trainers and drivers in the new season.

  • Drivers Fees will increase 10% from $50.00 to $55.00 across the state.
  • The Association in conjunction with the M & CTA put forward a proposal for a Statewide Sulky Fund to cover all trainers' sulkies when they compete in a race or HRV approved trial. HRV and a $1.00 starters fee from race meetings will fund this.
  • The compulsory 24hr Personal Accident Insurance will result in all Trainers & Drivers being convers 24 hours, 365 days a year, whilst they are carrying out a Harness Racing Activity. To view insurance policies click here (www.harness.org.au/ahrc/PLIABINS.HTM).

Our on going commitment is to increase returns to trainers and drivers, at the same time minimising the charges

Important on-going issues we are working closely on with HRV at present include:

  • Vests
  • Whip Rules
  • Clerks of Course & Track Attendant requirements
  • Swabbing Procedures
  • Upgrading of Harnessweb and Internet Information
  • Float Rebates.
